Questions

How much of my NPS can I withdraw at 60?

Under PFRDA's December 2025 amendment to the exit rules, a non-government subscriber with a corpus above ₹12 lakh can take up to 80% as a lump sum and must put at least 20% into an annuity. A corpus of ₹8 lakh or less can be withdrawn in full. Between ₹8 lakh and ₹12 lakh there are separate options. Government subscribers keep the 60:40 split. Check the current rules with your NPS account before you exit.

How is the NPS pension calculated?

The pension comes from an annuity you buy from an insurer with the share of the corpus you do not withdraw. The monthly amount depends on the annuity rate the insurer offers on the day you buy and the type of annuity you choose. The calculator uses a single rate, 6.5% a year by default, which you can change.

What return does NPS give?

It depends on how much of your money is in equity and how markets do. The calculator blends an equity return and a debt return in the proportion you choose. These are assumptions, not promises, and past returns are not a guide to future ones.

Can I keep my NPS invested after 60?

Yes. After the 2025 amendment you can defer the lump sum and the annuity purchase up to age 85. The calculator lets you set a later exit age.

Is NPS tax free?

Contributions can reduce your tax, and part of the lump sum at exit is tax free, but the rules differ between the old and new tax regimes and changed with the Income-tax Act, 2025. The pension from the annuity is taxed as income. Check the current rules, or ask a tax professional, before you rely on a deduction.
